Human Abuse Case Number Five

Child abuse homicide victim who died of dehydration after being tied inside an automobile in the summer with the windows closed. The photographs show where the child was bound to prevent him/her from leaving the vehicle while the adult was elsewhere.

The photographs of the neck show that the child was bound with a braided twine rope, such that there was bleeding well under the surface of the skin, as seen in the IR photograph.

The photographs of the child's wrist show where the wide, flat ligature was placed on the wrist. The opposite wrist had a similar injury pattern as well as the hands were tied behind the child.

The UV ("ultraviolet") photograph uses special photographic techniques and UV light to create an image of outer most surface of the damaged skin.

The IR ("infrared") photographic used special photographic techniques and IR light to create an image of the damage up to 3 mm below the surface of the skin, basically, bleeding under the skin.

The color photograph is standard visible light photography typically seen.
